Faith leaders condemn Nairobi killings2 October 2012
Catholic and other faith leaders in Kenya have condemned an attack on a Sunday school in Nairobi that left one child dead.
Eight others were injured in the grenade attack at the Polycarp Anglican Church on Sunday. Kenyans suspect the attack to have been retaliatory and carried by the Al-Qaeda-linked group Al-Shabaab after Somali troops entered the nearby militant-held port city of Kismayo.
The Catholic Bishop of Eldoret, Cornelius Korir, warned Kenyans not to blame Muslim groups for the killings and said that the attackers were criminals whom all faiths should unite to flush out.
A local Muslim leader, Sheikh Adan Wachu, said Muslims were ready to work with Christians to guard churches and mosques. Sheikh Wachu censured the killing of innocent children.
