Contract up for safeguarding chief27 September 2012
The contract of the Chief Executive of the Irish Church's safeguarding board, Ian Elliott, is due to end next June. In a statement the National Board for the Safeguarding of Children in the Catholic Church (NBSCCCI) said they were reviewing "whether and how" Mr Elliott, who turns 65 in the summer, can continue his work beyond that point.
The NBSCCCI said they had "not been subject to any pressures in this regard". Earlier this month it was disclosed that Mr Elliot had been cleared by an internal inquiry following a complaint made against him by the Bishop of Down and Connor, Noel Treanor.
The chairman of the nine-member NBSCCCI Board, John Morgan, has publicly given his support to Mr Elliot.
