Cardinal: I recall my errors25 September 2012
At a Mass of thanksgiving to mark his eightieth birthday, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor said he looked back first and foremost on his mistakes rather than his achievements.
Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor was delivering the homily at Westminster Cathedral on Friday which was packed with well-wishers and a large number of priests who concelebrated alongside the Archbishop of Westminster, Vincent Nichols.
The cardinal also said he was often asked whether he was a liberal or conservative Catholic, high or low church. He said he always replied: "I am a Catholic and a man of the Church."
At the end of the Mass Vincent Nichols, who succeeded him as Archbishop of Westminster, praised the cardinal's "irrepressible zest for life" and his love for his priests and people.
