Bernard Longley picked for evangelisation synod

The Vatican has named the Synod Fathers who will attend an upcoming General Assembly on the New Evangelisation.

Amongst the 12 cardinals named by Pope Benedict XVI today were Archbishop of Vienna Christoph Schönborn; Archbishop of Sydney George Pell; Archbishop of Cologne Joachim Meisner and Archbishop of Paris André Vingt-Trois.

The Pope also named the 12 archbishops who would attend, including Archbishop of Birmingham Bernard Longley. A further 10 bishops and reverend fathers are also named.

The General Assembly for the Synod of Bishops will take place from 7 to 28 October on the theme "The New Evangelisation for the Transmission of the Christian Faith".
