Irish Church must aid victims of 'criminal' abuse, says Martin17 June 2012
The Church must reach out to those Catholics who feel alienated from their faith and the victims of "criminal" clerical sexual abuse, the Archbishop of Dublin said today.
Speaking at the end of the final Mass at Croke Park, Dublin, at the end of the Fiftieth Eucharistic Congress Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said: "In our prayers in these days we have kept in our prayers and in our hearts all those who suffered criminal abuse within the community of Christ's Church and all those who feel in any way alienated from the Church and who have not experienced in our Church the love of Jesus Christ."
He went on: "We go away from here committed to build a Church of communion and service after the model of Jesus Christ."
The archbishop said the Eucharistic Congress had exceeded "our plans and expectations". He said that it should be used as a platform for the new evangelisation in Ireland.
