Irish Vatican embassy may reopen

27 January 2012

Ireland's embassy to the Holy See, which was closed last year due to budget cuts, could eventually be reopened, according to the Minister of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton.

Addressing politicians and members of the lobby group, "Ireland Stand Up", which is campaigning for a reversal of the embassy closure, Ms Creighton said the decision was taken in the context of the most difficult economic situation Ireland has experienced and "there will be an opportunity in the future" for the embassy to be reopened.
