Pro-life petition outpaces Amnesty

AMNESTY International’s high-profile campaign to legalise abortion in Ireland has “backfired spectacularly,” according to the country’s Pro Life Campaign group, writes Sarah Mac Donald.

More than 154,000 people have now signed a petition organised by the Life Institute calling on Amnesty International to stop pushing a pro-abortion agenda in Ireland after the human rights group released a video calling on the public to back a repeal of the pro-life 8th Amendment.

By comparison, just 48,440 people have signed Amnesty’s petition.

According to Cora Sherlock of the Pro Life Campaign (PLC), Amnesty has abandoned its founding principles with its vocal campaigning for “unrestricted abortion”. “I was once a proud member of Amnesty but like many others, I could not stand its current stance on abortion which is an affront to human dignity and authentic human rights,” she said.
