Catholic play wins award

by Rose Gamble

The Catholic theatre company, Ten Ten, has won a national media award for a stage play about human trafficking.

Telling the story of a trafficked Romanian woman, This is my Body, written by Ten Ten artistic director Martin O’Brien, was awarded Best Stage Production in a ceremony commending media who have highlighted the nature and prevalence of modern slavery in the UK.

“The journalists and campaigners recognised through these awards have given a voice to the victims of this despicable crime and through their work have helped to raise awareness about this important issue,” said Home Secretary Theresa May at the Anti-Slavery Day Media Awards 2015. Other winners included journalists from Channel 4, The Guardian and BBC Radio 4.

The awards reception on 15 October, organised by the Human Trafficking Foundation and the All Parliamentary Group on Human Trafficking, brought together 200 guests, including MPs and peers, as well as journalists, police and NGOs.

Ten Ten, which takes educational theatre to schools, young offender institutions, parishes and community venues, plans to stage a tour of the award-winning production in 2016.
