Opponents of assisted dying look to SNP

Opponents of assisted suicide are looking to SNP MPs at Westminster to set aside the principle of not voting on English-only matters and help to block legislation coming before the House of Commons on 11 September that would allow euthanasia in certain cases, writes Brian Morton.

Having opposed the Conservatives’ desire to ease the ban on hunting with dogs,  SNP MPs may now be persuaded to vote against the euthanasia bill, with the argument that if assisted dying is made legal in England, the absence of a closed border between the two countries will mean that the legislation will apply de facto to Scotland as well. Scotland has already voted against a euthanasia bill.
