Anti-slavery tsar to meet with Polish bishops

BRITAIN’s first independent anti-slavery commissioner is to travel to Poland to advise the country’s bishops on tackling human trafficking, writes Liz Dodd.

Kevin Hyland, whose trip was announced last week during a symposium on trafficking at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, is expected to leave within the next six weeks.

At the symposium, Bishop Patrick Lynch, the adviser to the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales on immigration, listed Polish communities as one of the groups most vulnerable to exploitation and abuses.

Mr Hyland, a Catholic, will be travelling in an official capacity and will meet government bodies in Poland, but will also members of the Polish bishops’ conference.
