Church must serve society


MANY IN Britain have forgotten the basic facts of Christianity, which at its heart helps people understand those who suffer from oppression, neglect or poverty, according to the Archbishop of Birmingham, writes Liz Dodd.

In a homily last Sunday, Archbishop Bernard Longley explained that he and other faith leaders were to sign a covenant on 11 December with the city council to help deliver services and social action. Speaking at the Annual Civic Mass at St Chad’s Cathedral, Archbishop Longley said that “faith communities know that they cannot flourish if they seek only to serve the needs of their own members”.
