Women of the Year named

FOUR WOMEN of the Year have been chosen by representatives of Catholic women’s organisations and lay movements, writes Liz Dodd.

Leonie Caldecott, whose husband, author Stratford, died of cancer last month, was recognised for her work as editor of the journals Second Spring and Magnificat, as well as for plays she wrote about Pope John Paul II and St Thérèse of Lisieux.

Also honoured were Maura Lydon, who runs a project at St Patrick’s Church in Soho in London that feeds up to 70 homeless people every week; Helen Williams, who takes sick children to Lourdes; and Sheila McAllister, for her fund-raising and work for the Church in Shrewsbury.
