Amid the devastation caused by last week’s bombs at Brussels airport, the chaplains sought to comfort victims, travellers and staff. Here they tell their stories

“I heard it on the eight o’clock morning news. Immediately afterwards someone from the chaplaincy team called me and confirmed the attacks. I went to the airport straight away. It was not easy to gain access, so I headed for the sports centre in Zaventem, where people had been evacuated from the airport entrance hall.
“The emergency services did a great job in difficult circumstances. Police, fire brigade, airport security, medical services: they were all united in supporting the victims and their families as much as they could possibly do.
“Some people experienced the attacks very closely – 15 metres from where they happened – and they needed to tell their story. I
