The past six years have seen financiers and corporate leaders, especially in London, vilified over their lack of concern for workers, customers and clients. Can Christianity help shape a more acceptable form of capitalism? Since the onset of the financial crisis in 2008, the City of London has been subject to a considerable regulatory clean-up, with tough new standards for financial conduct. But while the recession may technically be over, casualties are still emerging: mostly recently Britain’s largest ethical bank, the Co-operative Bank, which may only be salvaged by hedge funds that could end its ethical stance.
