When the remains of a Czech priest were exhumed from an unmarked grave and re-interred in his former parish church last month, attention was drawn back to the fate of Christians martyred under Communist rule.Fr Josef Toufar was denounced as a fraudster in the Communist-controlled media of then Czechoslovakia when, in December 1949, a tabernacle cross moved inexplicably while he was preaching.
