The leader of the most influential gay campaign group on her faith, same-sex marriage and changing attitudes in the Church.
Being a Catholic and heading Europe’s largest gay equality organisation seems one of the more unlikely pairings in public life. After all, many gay people have a troubled relationship with a Church that still officially regards homosexuality as “objectively disordered”, even though efforts have been made, particularly in the Diocese of Westminster, to be more inclusive through support for pastoral work with gay people. But Ruth Hunt, chief executive of the gay campaign group Stonewall, does not find her sexuality at odds with her faith.
