Hard lessons in Nepal


 
Schools are due to reopen on Friday less than three weeks after the devastation. The authorities are determined that education should resume at the earliest opportunity Amid tHE scenes of devastation, in the coming weeks and months, teachers will be leading lessons under plastic sheets held up by bamboo canes.The Nepalese Government’s Department of Education has announced it is setting up temporary learning centres where school buildings have been destroyed or seriously damaged. The only concession it has made following the disaster is to postpone secondary school exams that were due to begin tomorrow (10 May).The earthquake on 25 April claimed well over 7,500 lives while double that number were injured and many thousands more are still missing.
