Too meek for today’s politics


 
On Tuesday, the bishops of England and Wales published a letter to Catholics setting out issues to consider ahead of this year’s general election. It is a far cry from the bold 52-page document produced on the same subject last week by the Church of England Spin doctors of Conservative Central Office do not appear to be  greatly troubled by the second appearance of bishops on their political radar within a week. They were by all accounts busily out and about last week when the House of Bishops of the Church of England issued a long and provocative analysis of the state of British politics. The Tories decided to take it personally and responded with a public display of hurt indignation from the Prime Minister downwards.There was much less reverberation when the Catholic bishops
