Ain’t that a shame


 
There is, to adapt Jerry Lee Lewis, a whole lot of “shaming” going on. In recent months I have spotted “parent-shaming”, “single-shaming”, fat-shaming”, “skinny-shaming” and even “dog-shaming”. And that is to say nothing of the phrase with which it all began: “slut-shaming”. Perhaps we should start there. “Slut-shaming”, first identified in about 2012, is the practice of singling out women and attempting to make them feel ashamed for their behaviour or appearance, but mainly for being sexual.
