All government is local


 
Mary Ellen Russell’s job changed last week. The executive director of the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) still works at the same office in Annapolis, the state capital. She has the same job title and her day-to-day routine will be little different. But, on Wednesday, the new state governor, Larry Hogan, took office, and Hogan is a Republican. For the past eight years, Democrats have controlled both houses of the Maryland state legislature and the governor’s mansion. For the next four years, however, Maryland will have divided government.  Russell told The Tablet there are “dynamic changes because of divided government”.
