To mark our anniversary, we have invited 50 Catholics to choose the person from the last 175 years whose life has been a personal inspiration to them and an example of their faith at its best.
I can think of no better exemplar of the Catholic faith, lived and witnessed in joy, than Jean Vanier, (pictured). He is 86 now and still teaching us to look to the fragile if we want to know our own strength, to the overlooked if we want to experience love. Fifty years ago Vanier founded the L’Arche community in Trosly-Breuil, France (where he still lives), when he invited two intellectually disabled men into his home to share his life, for life.In the Irish language the intellectually disabled person is known as a “Duine le Dia”.
