Don’t just leave it to the police

The police are no longer focused just on crime but also on dealing with the most vulnerable people in society. But, says the chief constable of Greater Manchester, this is a time of austerity and they cannot do all the public wants of them. This is an opportunity for others to play their part, too Jesus’ exhortation “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged” (Matthew 7:1) would seem to cause some difficulty for police officers and others in the criminal-justice system trying to follow their Christian faith. Making judgements about people is surely apart of our work. The same could be said of the call to set prisoners free.
