One of England’s biggest Catholic schools has introduced a prayer space to help children cope with the stress of exams. The school: Cardinal Newman is a co-educational voluntary-aided secondary school for students aged 11 to 18. It currently has 2,300 pupils, of whom 450 are sixth-formers. As the only Catholic secondary in the city of Brighton and Hove, Cardinal Newman is ethnically diverse – it has large Polish and Sudanese communities and 42 languages besides English are spoken. Students come from all economic backgrounds, although the percentage that receives the pupil premium is low.
