Analysis of Francis’ first year: themes of his papacy

 
Without repeatedly emphasising the influence of the Second Vatican Council, Pope Francis has closely followed its teachings in what he has said and done thus far in his papacy, particularly in seven common themes identified by one leading theologian and fellow JesuitAt 98, easily the oldest of the men who received the red hat on 22 February, Archbishop Loris Francesco Capovilla served, while still a monsignor, as ­private secretary to Blessed John XXIII in Venice where he was patriarch from 1953, and then in Rome from 1958. After the Pope died in June 1963, Capovilla edited his spiritual diary, Journal of a Soul and then Letters to His Family.
