I began last month’s piece with praise for Sainsbury’s more imaginative choice, and will continue in that vein for a moment. Now it has added a lovely Gaillac perlé to the list, at £7.99. The perlé refers to the tiniest of bubbles that can be detected as you savour this flavoursome and very refreshing white wine from the vineyards between Toulouse and Albi. The grapes that go into this wine are from a list that contains the local len de l’el, mauzac and ondenc, as well as some sauvignon blanc and/or sémillon. It all makes for a classic wine at a good price.Another good bargain at just £3.99 a bottle are the rather unpretentious Italia rosso and Italia bianco from Asda.
