A survivor speaks out: ‘The best apology would be to fire the bishops’


 
The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests – known widely by its acronym, Snap – is one of the most vocal critics of the Church’s record on child abuse, but momentarily last week one of its members was visibly moved by a priest’s words, writes Elena Curti.Miguel Hurtado listened to Fr Thomas Rosica deliver a heartfelt apology for what he had suffered when the two men appeared on BBC2’s Newsnight programme on Wednesday last week. Fr Rosica, who runs Salt and Light Television in Toronto, is an English-language assistant to the Holy See Press Office.He appeared on Newsnight via a satellite link-up to give his reaction to the report of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child concerning the Church’s record on abuse.On being told by interviewer Jere
