The Ethical Kitchen
 

The notion that animals are “sentient” is philosophical, not strictly based in science, yet now there is a move to enshrine the concept in law. The adjective does not have a crystal-clear definition. It is a broad-ish term meaning a capacity to feel, to have consciousness.

 

The government’s Animal Welfare Bill, created to replace expiring European Union law after Brexit and now in draft form, does recognise animals as sentient beings.
