‘The Supreme Court decisions will impact on the life of the Church …for decades to come’On 1 January, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate went into full effect, requiring all health-insurance policies to cover contraception, sterilisation and certain drugs that some believe are abortifacients. Except it didn’t. Because of a mish-mash of court rulings, the mandate is in effect for some people, delayed for others, and everyone on all sides anticipates that the issue will be decided by the US Supreme Court. In December, conflicting court rulings were handed down. In Pennsylvania, federal judge Arthur Schwab granted a permanent injunction against the HHS enforcing the mandate, in a case brought by the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and Erie. Judge Sch
