Winner takes all: behind the excitement of National Hunt Racing is greed and tradition
 

Boxing Day will be with us shortly and with it a cascade of jump racing. Sadly, it will be the last from Kempton Park as the Jockey Club, in its wisdom, has sold the course for housing development – much to the annoyance and anger of the racing industry and punters alike.

 

It is a great pity but for my money the better course to enjoy a Boxing Day at the races is Wincanton in Somerset. The crowds are smaller, the parking is easier and the racing just as exciting.
