A week or so ago I was lunching with a bishop and contemporary of mine. We were chatting about the Royal Commission’s final report, which was due soon.
I said to him, “Whoever would have thought when we were ordained priest, or even bishop, that we’d be swamped by all this stuff?” He nodded in agreement and sipped his wine. The conversation moved on.
We were both ordained priest in the 1970s and bishop in the early 2000s.
