Hats off to the farmer who works his few acres along Moor Lane. It’s the way I cycle to the railway station, and his high-hedged fields are always a delight. Sometimes there are lambs, sometimes goats, sometimes a herd of highland cows; once, a group of inquisitive, mop-topped alpacas was staring over the gate and humming contentedly.

The farmer, an artist in his own way, planted his whole arable holding a frothy blue last year.
