In a candid conversation, after a conference about the future of democracy in Venezuela, the Jesuit priest Luis Ugalde, one of the country’s most prominent public intellectuals, was asked whether he had become too radical in his criticisms of the Chavista Government led by President Nicolás Maduro. He smiled, and answered: “Well my boy, I’m old. And besides, what’s the point of having a cassock?”
