I cannot claim to know Cardinal Pell well but we have crossed paths on a few occasions. About 20 years ago, when I was working as a Jesuit priest, I would occasionally say the TV Mass that one of the commercial stations used to broadcast at 6 a.m. on Sunday. Weeks in advance, the rostered priest would record four consecutive Masses on a Friday evening in a soulless studio, the set of what was a TV cooking programme being temporarily wheeled to one side.
