Smoke and mirrors don’t fix real issues


 

The prime minister’s negotiating triumph in Brussels last week, undoubtedly considerable, was achieved at the cost of blurring the truth. For she has still failed to answer the fundamental question behind Brexit – what will Britain’s future trading relationship with Europe and the rest of the world look like?

 

The truth she blurred involved her acceptance of the requirement, which the European Union had made an absolute condition, that there should be no physical border between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
