Albert Einstein is said to have defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. By that measure, we are probably all a bit mad. And that includes the Labour Party. There is another saying, attributed to George Santayana and possibly Edmund Burke, which adds “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. Again, that includes the Labour Party. Only gradually has it realised the fundamental political mistake it made five years ago, after losing the 2010 general election.
