Changes are afoot at three of the English-speaking seminaries in Rome, with new rectors due to take over in the autumn at the Scots College and the Beda College – for more mature vocations – while the current vice-rector of the Venerable English College, Fr Mark Harold, is expected to return to his home diocese of Salford some time soon. Only one of the three replacements has so far been confirmed: Canon Philip Gillespie from Liverpool has already been seen around Rome over recent weeks preparing to take over at the Beda College, located beside the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls. It will be a far cry from his present position as dean of the seven Catholic churches on the Isle of Man, but Fr Philip has also had plenty of experience of formation for the priesthood, having
