I discovered I had to appreciate all I have, and not sweat the small stuff


 
It’s exactly a year since I was diagnosed with cancer; eight months since I finished treatment. And surprisingly – or at least, it has certainly been a surprise to me – my life is completely back to normal. People talk about a “new normal” after cancer; but no, I’ve just got my old normal back. A piece (or five) to write; a daughter to help revise for her GCSEs; a basket of ironing so full the laundry room door will no longer close; an empty fridge to fill; a lawn to mow; a holiday to book. But there is a difference. Because now I really do cherish every day. Whatever I’m doing I can always find the fun in it somewhere. And actually, I’ve always enjoying writing and talking to my daughters and doing the ironing (well – in small amounts
