People to whom one has been introduced are less easy to hate


 
Although the secular press carried previews of the Synod in Rome, the piece on godly matters with the most impact this week was surely The Sunday Times Magazine’s 11-page photo feature #IamMuslim. The title was not merely an example of trendy design. The hashtag was intended to allow young British Muslim readers to tweet their pictures and stories. I’m not sure why old Muslim readers shouldn’t take part, except perhaps that they don’t appeal so much to the advertising dept.The oldest of the 12 Muslims featured in Clare Conway’s deliberately spare interviews was Rashad Ali, 34, who works at countering extremism in Sheffield. At 15, he’d been recruited by the Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir until he “began to realise how dangerous their narrative was.
