In The Independent, Peter Popham, an experienced foreign correspondent, grew quite hot under the collar that a blogger called Erasmus “thinks Pope Francis is a Bolshevik”. Erasmus writes on The Economist website, and though not calling the Pope a Bolshevik by name, he accused him of following an “ultra-radical line: one that consciously or unconsciously follows Vladimir Lenin in his diagnosis of capitalism”. Erasmus was commenting on an interview that Pope Francis gave the Spanish daily La Vanguardia. (It is a Catalan paper, but most people read it in Spanish. This week it was reporting the invitation by the new King Philip VI, during an audience in Rome, for the Pope to visit Spain for the 500th anniversary of St Teresa next year.)  In the interview, the
