If cancer doesn’t change your life, you’ve missed one of its richest opportunities


 
Does having cancer change your life? Not in the long term, anyway: in the short term it can hardly fail to make you think things will be different, and significantly. If I get through this, you think, I won’t sweat the small stuff any more. I have thought like that and I’ve certainly been calmer and more philosophical since I was first diagnosed. Niggling work issues, late grocery deliveries, the threat of an impending, noisy property development two doors down from my own, worries over redecoration costs … all this used to keep me awake in the small hours.
