‘The music-makers in most parishes wouldn’t know Ed Sheeran if he walked up to the altar’   It’s Sunday evening and, once again, we’ve left Mass until the last minute.We didn’t go yesterday evening because Catriona, 12, had a playdate.We didn’t go to 8 a.m. today because my daughters wanted a lie-in; we didn’t go to 9.30 a.m. because it’s full of screaming kids and, now they’re not screaming kids themselves any more, that’s the Mass my own children most crinkle up their noses at.We didn’t go to 11 a.m. because it’s bells and smells and the singing is in Latin (Catriona: “What exactly IS Latin, mummy? And why are the hymns at church in that language?”).I’ve no answer to those questions &n
