Pope Francis has done it again – he has gone and given another interview to a secular paper! This time it is with Corriere della Sera, arguably Italy’s most authoritative broadsheet. He told its editor he found all the “myth-making” depicting him as “a sort of superman or star” to be “offensive”. “The Pope is a man that smiles, cries, sleeps peacefully and has friends like anyone else – a normal person,” he said. In fact, he described his election to the papacy as being “transferred” to another diocese. There is not much in the interview, published on Wednesday, that Francis has not already said before, except for his (disappointing) comments on sex abuse (see page 33).
