‘It is truly amazing how generous Catholics are in their willingness to forgive the Church’


 
A  parish priest in Liverpool once told me about the time he printed a note to be pushed through people’s doors. It said that if anyone was a Catholic but no longer went to Mass, they were welcome to contact the presbytery. He got just such a call from a young woman, and visited her at home.She had had a church marriage to a man, the father of her two small children, who turned into a drunken bully. He eventually left and she struggled on alone until she met someone else, attractive, kind and sober. They married in a register office.
