Muslim Viking cheesemongers had not until recently entered into my perspective on European history. It seems that in the year 844, a raiding party of 54 Viking ships sailed further south than planned and ventured up the river Guadalquivir, pitching camp near Seville. The river not being navigable any higher upstream, the Vikings made the mistake of taking to the land, allowing the Emir of Córdoba to rally a force against them, capturing 400, most of whom were hanged.
