How far can you go? This was the question that provided the title to David Lodge’s novel about sex in the 1960s, seen through the eyes of young Catholics. Going far, in that context, meant pursuing love and pleasure while hoping to avoid pregnancy. Today, though, the big contemporary ethical dilemmas are about different ways to become pregnant, rather than how to prevent it.
