Abbie Hoffman turned 32 in 1968. Yet in September of that year, when he was arraigned on charges of conspiracy, incitement to riot and sundry other countercultural activities, he claimed to be just eight years old. “I am a child of the Sixties,” he told Judge Julius Hoffman (emphatically no relation). “Psychologically, I was born in 1960.”
