This is a “maybe” book; an “he could have”, “he probably”, “we can imagine that …”, sort of book. There are roughly 110 sources cited in the bibliography which have the name of Vermeer or of one of his paintings in their title, and yet we have hardly any evidence of his working practices, and none at all of any use of the camera obscura.
