From creation to 're-creation' The Holy See's pavilion at Venice Biennale - 17 June 2013 09:00 For the first time, the Holy See has entered a pavilion for this year‘s Venice Biennale. Artists were asked to tackle themes from Michelangelo‘s Sistine Chapel ceiling and did so over a series of three rooms entitled Creation, Un-creation and Re-Creation. Art ranged from desolate panoramics to enormous canvasses - via a room-sized, interactive, video installation.

The paper, "Faith in the Community: strengthening the ties between faith groups and local authorities", by the group Christians in Parliament, was based on responses from 150 councils in England, Scotland and Wales.
It found that just over half of local authorities are engaged with the Catholic Church in providing community services, and a similar proportion work in partnership with the Church of England.

Middle classes dominant in top Catholic schools The Sutton Trust - 5 June 2013 09:00 A new report by the Sutton Trust has revealed that the hundred top performing Catholic state schools in England and Wales contain just half the average proportion of pupils from poorer backgrounds.
On average just 8.5 percent of children at the highest achieving Catholic comprehensives at GCSE level in 2012 were eligible for free school meals (FSM) - an indicator of low family income - compared with a national average of 16.5 per cent, according to a report by the educational charity.
At some of the best performing Catholic schools, where up to 100 per cent of pupils gained five ‘good' GCSEs at grades A-C - including English and maths - less than five per cent of children were eligible for FSMs, the report shows. ...
