One of the oddities of the film year is that it begins, in effect, in the second half of February – so the next few weeks still benefit from the release of contenders for 2015 awards.Looking further into 2016, some of the most-awaited movies don’t yet have a release date. Top amongst them is Silence, the next film from Martin Scorsese. This adaptation of Shusaku Endo’s 1966 novel about Jesuit missionaries in seventeenth-century Japan is a project about which Scorsese has talked for decades. Filming was completed in Taiwan earlier this year with Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds leading as the priests.The film may be at Cannes in May, alongside perhaps Steven Spielberg’s Roald Dahl centenary celebration The BFG with Mar
