Some 80 per cent of Americans believe in angels, and a significant proportion claim some direct contact with one, according to a poll. There is no firm consensus about what these heavenly messengers look like, and certainly no insistence on wings or even bright lights, but that is because most Americans have seen It’s a Wonderful Life.The striking thing about the poll figure is that it seems to cross faith lines and, even more importantly, the line between belief and agnosticism.
